Cocoa

Cocoa (Theobroma cacao) is the foundational input for the global chocolate confectionery market, with ~5.0-5.4 MMT global production concentrated extraordinarily in West Africa. Côte d'Ivoire alone produces ~36% of global supply. The 2023/24 supply shock drove cumulative deficits of ~900 kMT and pushed NY ICE futures to all-time highs above $12,000/MT. Recovery underway in 2024/25 but stocks remain tight, structural CSSV epidemic in Ghana removes capacity permanently, and the EUDR December 30, 2026 deadline imposes a single largest regulatory shock to the supply chain in decades.
