South Korea market dynamics
Demand fluctuations and recent market contraction. From 2019 to 2023, global Brazil nut export value fell by about 28.8% to USD 229 million due to excess stocks and changing consumption trends, notably in Europe.[4] However, 2024 saw a rebound to around USD 345.6 million in exports, suggesting cyclical recovery and continued, but volatile, demand for premium and health-positioned nuts.[4][5]
Health, gluten-free, and ethnic demand driving value growth. Buckwheat benefits from rising demand for gluten-free and high-fiber products, as well as entrenched consumption in Eastern Europe (kasha) and Japan (soba noodles).[2][5] Market value is projected to grow from about USD 1.6 billion in 2026 toward USD 2.3–2.5 billion by the early 2030s, outpacing volume growth.[4][10]
Rising dairy and livestock intensity in Asia driving quality upgrades. Expansion and industrialization of dairy herds in China and Southeast Asia is increasing demand for high‑quality, consistent forage to support higher milk yields.[1][3] Importers are becoming more specification‑driven, requiring defined RFV, protein and fiber parameters, which supports a quality‑tiered pricing structure in the export market.[4]
Premiumization and growth of cashmere apparel. The cashmere clothing segment is projected to grow steadily, with estimates of around USD 3.6–4.8 billion market value in the mid‑2020s and forecasts of USD 5–8 billion by the early 2030s.[2][8] Luxury and aspirational consumers in Europe and Asia are driving demand for fine knitwear and blended fabrics, supporting structurally firm prices despite limited supply growth.[2][3][8]
Shift toward higher food-safety and sustainability standards. Key import markets such as the EU, US, Japan, and South Korea increasingly require stricter pesticide residue, mycotoxin, and microbiological compliance for dried chili and chili powder.[9] This dynamic favors integrated suppliers with strong quality systems and access to sterilization technology, while smaller or less formal supply chains face higher rejection risk and compliance costs.
